Zerilli-Marimò/City of Rome Prize for Italian Fiction
The seventh Zerilli-Marimò/City of Rome Prize for Italian Fiction was awarded to Valeria Parrella for her novel Per grazia ricevuta. The Prize was presented to Ms. Parrella by Baroness Mariuccia Zerilli-Marimò at Casa Italiana on Friday, December 8 2006. Ms. Parrella and finalist authors Salvatore Niffoi and Antonio Scurati read from their books.
The Winner
Valeria Parrella lives in Naples. She made her debut with the short story collection, Mosca più balena, which won the Campiello Prize opera prima 2004. In 2005, Parrella won the Premio Renato Fucini for her book Per grazia ricevuta.
The Book
Per grazia ricevuta features four stories of women and men in crucial moments of their lives. Narrated with irony and a passion, the stories are, at times, painful. The main characters become an attraction to people from all walks of life, from charming carpenters, effeminate teenagers, and old mobsters to new men of power.
